Description
23 and 25 Pople Street is a pair of houses built in the early 18th century. They are timber-framed with a 19th-century brick exterior and have a pantile roof. The buildings are two storeys high. On the ground floor, there are 20th-century plank doors on the right and left, flanked by one 2-light and two 3-light 19th-century casement windows, all set under segmental arches. The first floor features four 3-light casements beneath straight heads. The roof is gabled with a central ridge stack, and there is a large 20th-century catslide extension at the rear. Inside, the ground-floor front has chamfered bridging beams with run-out stops. The original rear wall is made of timber studs of thin scantling, and the front wall has studs with tension braces at the corners, along with jowled principal studs.
