Description
The Yews is a pair of houses built as one in the mid 16th century, located on Needham Market High Street. The buildings are two storeys high with three windows and are timber-framed, though the front is encased in 19th-century painted brick. They feature a plaintiled roof with rear chimneys made of gault and red brick. The windows are large-pane sashes from the mid 19th century, with painted cornice-form lintels above the ground storey windows. Number 13 includes a 19th-century shop window with large panes and a canopy supported by console brackets. Both houses have 19th-century four-panelled entrance doors, with Number 13 featuring an oblong fanlight. Although much of the timber-framing is concealed, the building originally had a long-wall jettied design towards the street and retains a plain but largely complete crownpost roof.
