Description
The Main Barn, located 20 metres east of Shafford Farmhouse, is a barn dating from the 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is believed to have been moved a short distance to its current location during this time. The barn features weatherboarding and a corrugated iron roof, with a painted brick base. On the west side, there is a 19th-century gabled cart entrance raised on a tall brick base. The structure consists of five bays, with the aisle remaining on the east side, while the west aisle was removed in the 19th century. It has passing braces from the wall posts to the tie beams, as well as curved braces from the principals to the tie beams and wall plates. The south wall is constructed of red brick from the 16th or 17th century. Enclosing the north and northwest sides of the barn is a late 19th-century stable wing, with a similar wing on the south side, both of which are not considered of special interest.
