Description

Shafford Farmhouse is a 17th-century timber-frame building, partly visible at the rear, which was recased in red brick around 1800. It has a slate hipped roof and an L-shaped plan. The house is two storeys high. The front elevation features two segmental-headed casement windows on either side of a slightly projecting central bay. A door is set within a gauged brick relieving arch. Two horizontal brick bands run through the centre of the facade, and there are shallow piers at the ends of the elevation. The eaves are finished with dentilled brickwork. A low, two-storey projection is on the east side, with timber framing visible internally. A brick-cased 17th-century projection containing a lateral chimney stack is located on the rear centre, and is adjoined to the west by a 17th-century stair turret with a stuccoed upper floor. A further late 17th-century brick chimney stack is to the west of the turret. The interior consists of four to five bays, with original partitions having been removed. Later 17th-century work is present at the west end.
