Description

Beech Hyde Cottage is a pair of houses that were originally one large farmhouse. The building dates back to the 16th century and features a timber frame. It has been extended away from the road with a gabled wing added in the mid-17th century, and further extended around 1800. There is a 20th-century rear extension that may incorporate some early timber framing.

The exposed framing is visible on the early part of the structure, while the 17th-century wing is constructed of red brick with stone quoins. The roofs are covered with plain tiles. The early section consists of three bays and has three 20th-century glazing bar casements. A ridge chimney stack from around 1600 is present, and the roof line is higher on the left and right, possibly indicating the location of a hall.

The 17th-century wing features a floor band and a wide three-light casement. The block added around 1800 has an impressive doorcase with moulded panels and reveals, along with a leaded fan adorned with husk swags. It also has plain pilasters with dentilled capitals, a dentilled and modillioned open pediment, and two 19th- or 20th-century glazing bar casements, one of which next to the door has a segmental head. The eaves are dentilled brick, and the roof is low and covered with slate.
