Description
Old Jeromes is a house that dates back to the late medieval period and features a timber frame, likely originally designed as an open hall. Around the year 1600, a chimney and fireplaces were added to the middle of the three-bay structure. An additional bay was constructed at the eastern end in the late 17th century or early 18th century. The front of the building has a brick casing from the 18th century on the ground floor, while the upper floor is plastered. The roof is made of plain tiles and is half hipped at the ends. The house has two storeys and features four 20th-century casement windows, including two dormers at the eaves. There is also a 20th-century porch with a timber frame upper floor. The rear elevation displays exposed framing and 17th or 18th-century brickwork on the upper floor, with 20th-century brick on the ground floor. Inside, the framing includes arch braces to the plates and ties, as well as wind braces supporting the roof. The interior also features stout exposed joists, an old land rail, and two fireplaces dating from around 1600.
