Description
This is a late 15th or early 16th century farmhouse, originally a hall house. A cross wing was added to the east in the 16th century. Later, in the 17th and 18th centuries, brick extensions were built at each end to create a single long range. The north elevation exhibits exposed timber framing with a continuous rail and widely spaced broad studs. The central two bays represent the original hall, with the right bay featuring curved braces. The ground floor of this section has painted brick. Five modern glazing bar casements are present, along with a 17th-century gabled dormer window. The brick extensions feature tall plinths; the eastern extension has a 17th-century stack, and the southern extension incorporates a barn. A 17th-century stack has been inserted into the middle of the main range. The rear elevation includes a single-storey gabled projection that incorporates a 17th-century staircase. Inside, the roof structure of the central hall section shows signs of soot, and includes two large tie beams, formerly with curved braces. It is likely that a crown post roof is concealed. The floor joists in the hall section have hollow chamfers, and a 17th-century stack is located near the north wall.
