12/199 Tirsi's Urn in west part of gardens at The Bury at Grid Ref TL 1874 2193 27.5.68 (formerly listed as The Gardens at St Paul's Walden Bury)

Memorial urn. To Tirsi, a pet dog, who died 1768. Carved limestone urn and pedestal. A large Neo-Classical urn about l½M tall set on a pedestal of equal height and about 1M square, set within a circle of Yew trees. Urn has carved wave-pattern around base, moulded stem to ovoid shaped body with key-pattern band around shoulder. Egg-and-dart band and acanthus knob to cap. Solid stone plinth with raised and fielded panel to each face and inscription cut in W side. Moulded base and cap with delicate corona. Inscription reads: 'Within these Shades in peaceful Ashes lies/The most endearing of his Species:/TIRSI loveliest of the faithful kind/In manners meak, and of a gentle Mind./TIRSI/too early lost! the Zephirs sigh,/His Mem'ry dear, his Mistrefs ever retains,/ And fair unspotted fame attend his Manes/Ob,:7 Sep tr 1768/Aetat 4.'.
