Description

The statue of a Running Footman is located at the south end of the theatre in the gardens at The Bury, St Paul's Walden. This 18th-century statue is inspired by the Borghese Gladiator and a late Roman marble statue now housed in the Louvre. The lifesize lead figure stands on a limestone pedestal, facing north and leaning forward, with its right leg bent and advanced, and the left arm extended forward. The right hand holds the hilt of a broken sword, while the left arm appears to be bandaged or mended. The pedestal is 1.5 meters high and features bold mouldings around the base and cap, which extend to the apsidal projections at each end.
