Description

This building is a barn located about 40 meters south of Hyde Hall Farm House. It dates from the 17th century and was extended in the 18th century. The barn has a timber frame and is weatherboarded, with some brick elements. The roofs are made of slate and corrugated iron. It consists of six bays with a two-bay addition. There is a projecting gabled midstrey facing away from the house in the third bay from the left end, flanked by lean-to additions that feature stable doors and casement windows. The gable end to the right has an early red brick base, which has been partly rebuilt in the 20th century. The slightly lower extension at the left end has lean-to additions on all sides. The elevation facing the house has early red brick on the ground floor, with weatherboarding above and lean-to outshut additions, while the roof slope facing the house is covered with slate.

Inside, there are braces from jowled posts to tie beams, struts to the principals, lower butt purlins, and collars clasping the upper purlins. Some roof timbers have been renewed, but original studding and braces remain in the walls. The two-bay addition features curved braces to the tie beams and queen struts to the collars clasping the purlins.
