Description
Mill End Cottage is a house, likely originating in the 16th century, with extensions dating to the 17th and 18th centuries and alterations in the 20th century. It is timber-framed and rendered, with a thatched roof. The building likely began as a two-bay open hall, subsequently extended at both ends to create a four-cell layout. It is one storey and has an attic. Two entrances are located flanking the central bay. A three-light leaded pane casement window is central, with a two-light casement and a tile-coped brick oven projection to the left, and a four-light casement to the right. Three dormers are present: a four-light dormer in the centre, with tiled eaves below the sill, a two-light dormer to the right, and a single-light dormer to the left, all with thatched eyebrows. A stack is located at the right end of the roof. A ridge stack is positioned between the two early bays and at the left end. The roof is hipped to the left. Lean-to additions have been made to both ends of the building. The rear of the property features leaded casement windows and two- and three-light dormers, with weatherboarding to the rear right. The interior reveals exposed timber framing of large scantling, incorporating tension braces.
