Description

The Carriers is a house that was formerly a public house, built in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick, with a stucco finish and timber cladding, topped by a hipped slate roof. The building has two storeys and features a symmetrical three-bay facade. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door with a small rectangular fanlight above, framed by a doorcase with fret-patterned pilasters and a shallow pediment. The ground floor is timber clad, showcasing banded rustication and key-blocked rusticated flat-arched heads above two flush frame 16-pane sash windows. A plat band separates the ground and first floors, where there is a central 12-pane dummy window flanked by two 16-pane sashes, all with moulded flush frames and stucco scored to resemble ashlar. The first floor also features angle quoins and boxed eaves. The right return has two bays with mixed fenestration, while the left end has a red brick stack. At the rear, there is a lean-to outshut on the ground floor, with two 12-pane sashes on the first floor and angle quoins, along with an external stack to the rear right.
