Description
The George is a public house that underwent early 19th century rebuilding of an earlier structure. It features some timber framing with brick infill in the rear wall, while the rest of the building is covered in colour-washed stucco, with parts having rendered band courses and shaped brick eaves. The roof is slate and hipped at the front.
The east front has three storeys and two bays. The ground floor includes a wide sash window on the left, an off-centre door, and a canted bay with sash windows on the right. The first floor has 4-pane sashes with segmental heads and a balcony that boasts a very fine wrought iron balustrade with elaborate scrolls, which may have originated from Claydon House. The second floor also features 4-pane sashes. The left corner of the building is angled, and the south front has irregular sash windows.
