Description
No. 17 Market Square is a shop with a gallery above, originally built in the 17th century and re-faced in the 18th century. The shop front was updated in the 19th century, and the side wall was rebuilt in the 20th century. Inside, the timber frame is visible, featuring curved wind-braces in the roof. The 18th-century front is made of brick with red brick dressings, a second-floor band course, and a parapet that conceals the gable of the old tiled roof. The building has three storeys and one bay at the front. The shop front includes gothicised Doric pilasters and a cornice, with Tudor-arched lights and a door to the left. The first floor has two barred sash windows with cambered brick heads, while the second floor features one four-pane sash window.
