Description
No. 3 (D.F. Midgley, Ironmonger) is a shop, store-rooms, and house located in Winslow Market Square. The main block, which is included for its group value, dates from the late 19th century and features an 18th-century bay that has been re-faced in the 19th century to the right, along with a bay from a 17th-century house that is structurally part of No. 5 Market Square on the far right. There are also 18th-century blocks at the rear.
The main block is constructed of red brick and has a battlemented parapet and a moulded cornice. It stands three storeys high with two bays facing the square, plus a curving bay at the left corner. The shop front is adorned with Doric pilasters and columns flanking a corner door, while sash windows are positioned above. The corner windows and door are curved. The refronted bay to the right is made of brick and features a rendered cornice at the first floor level, with quoins above. The roof is tiled.
The building has two storeys and an attic, with tripartite sashes that have cambered heads and a paired barred casement in the dormer. The right gable is made of 18th-century brick, complete with brick coping, a second-floor band course, and a moulded band with a ball ornament near the apex. The 17th- to 18th-century bay has whitewashed render on the front over a timber frame and an old tiled roof, with a projecting shop front. The 18th-century blocks at the rear along Bell Walk are constructed of brick, featuring moulded eaves or a plinth and a band course, with tiled roofs and two storeys, along with irregular casements.
