Description
Lye End Farm House is a house dating from the late 15th century or early 16th century, which was floored, heated, and extended in the 17th century, with further extensions in the 19th century and alterations in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame that is rendered, with a tiled roof. Originally, it had a two-bay open hall, which was extended by two bays with a lobby entry to the left. The 19th-century additions are located to the right and at the rear of the house.
The house is two storeys tall and has a projecting porch in the bay to the left of the original building, featuring a half-glazed door in the reveal. There are two-light flush frame casement windows, with a single light window above the entrance. A stack is located in the entrance bay, behind the ridge, with four diagonal flues. There is a second entrance at the left end. The two bays added to the right have 20th-century casements and a slightly lower ridge, with a stack at the right end. At the rear, there is a slightly lower half-hipped wing and a lean-to attached to the rear of the 19th-century block, which has a catslide roof.
Inside, the early bays feature large scantling to the frame, a stop-chamfered binding beam, chamfered jowled posts, cambered tie beams, and curved tension braces.
