Description

The Gardener's cottage at The White House, located 12 meters east of the main house, is a structure dating from the 17th century or earlier, with a brick front added in the 18th century. It features a timber frame resting on a red brick sill, with red brick infill and casing on the front and ends. The cottage has a steep old red tile roof and is a one and a half storey building that faces east, set back within a yard. It has end chimneys and a central entrance plan, with an important north chimney that projects slightly. There is an added external chimney on the south gable. The east front is symmetrical, featuring two windows and two gabled dormers at the eaves. The central boarded door is set in a heavy frame and is topped by a segmental arch. The cottage has two-light casement windows with small panes, also under segmental arches. A toothed course is present in the corbelled eaves course. Notably, there are sags in the roof and framing on the west side, indicating two bays, with the larger bay on the north side containing a door leading into it.
