Description

This is a 17th-century cottage located on the north-east side of Reading Road in Basildon. It is timber-framed with white-painted brick infill, and has a tile-hung gable end on the right. The roof is tiled, with a half-hipped section to the right, and features two gabled dormers, each with a three-light leaded casement window. A chimney stack is positioned off-centre to the right of the roof ridge. The cottage is of a lobby entrance type, originally comprising two framed bays. It has one and a half storeys, with two ground floor windows, each with three lights and leaded casements, flanking a boarded front door. The door is located beneath the chimney stack, which is off-centre to the left. A rustic, gabled porch shelters the entrance.
