Description

The Old Hall is a 17th-century cottage located on Scropton Lane. It is a complete timber-framed building with an outshut, featuring box framing with brick infill and part brick casing. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has a central brick stack. The cottage has a lobby entrance plan and is a single storey plus attics.

The east elevation has two bays with exposed box framing and two sets of braces. There is an off-centre doorway with a 20th-century wooden porch, and to the right, there is a 2-light small pane casement window. A small 20th-century extension is located at the northeast corner. The south gable end is encased in brick and cement render, with only the corner posts and rafters of the end roof truss visible. It features a segment-headed 3-light wooden casement window on the ground floor and a 2-light 20th-century window above.

To the left, there is an outshut under a continuous roof, which includes a single 20th-century window to the south. Inside, the cottage has a massive central chimney breast with a large inglenook in the south room and a braced single purlin roof.
