Description

Fauld Hall is a manor house that dates from the late 16th century, with possible earlier elements and later additions and alterations from the late 18th and 19th centuries. The building features part timber framing with brick infill, and a later wing constructed in brickwork, all topped with tiled roofs. It has a complex plan that evolved from the original hall and cross-wing layout.

The hall has largely been replaced by 18th-century work on the west side, while a 19th-century wing has been built against the east side of the cross-wing, creating an elongated cross shape. The cross-wing is now central to the overall design, gabled, and two stories high, showcasing diagonal framing that originally featured a lozenge pattern within the panels. It has a corbelled gable and a three-light casement window at the center of the first floor, positioned above a three-sided hipped bay on the ground floor. To the left, there is a two-story gabled porch that jetties out on the first floor, supported by diagonal braces on the truss. The porch has a central 20th-century two-light casement window above a wide-boarded door with strap hinges and a ring knocker.

The wing to the left of the hall is set back behind the porch and features gabled dormers on two stories with an attic, having been raised in the 20th century. It includes two windows with 20th-century gabled dormers above 20th-century concrete lintel casements of unequal depths, as well as a single two-light segmental-head casement window on the ground floor to the right. The wing to the right of the timber-framed gable is also two stories high with an attic, featuring two casement windows (one dormer to the right) and a farm entrance positioned at an angle to the left. An attached cottage to the right has a lower ridge and is not included in the listing.
