Description
Piggenwhistle and Little Piggenwhistle is a house and outhouse that was once a public house and is now divided into two houses. It dates from the early 18th century, with a rear wing added in the 19th century, and the northern part has been made into a separate house. The building is constructed of red brick with some blue bricks in Flemish bond, and the upper floor of the northern part is timber framed and roughcast. It features steep old red tile roofs.
The main house is two storeys high, with a cellar and attic, facing west, and has a two-storey rear wing and a two-storey northern part. The main house has two windows on each floor, a central gabled dormer on the roof slope, and a central door. It includes a plat-band in headers, a low plinth, and a corbelled eaves band. There is an internal chimney on the northern gable and an external chimney on the southern gable. The ground floor has two three-light divided casements that are set nearly flush, with deep cambered arches above two-light sliding casements. The half-glazed door has moulded panels and is sheltered by a lean-to hood supported by pierced brackets.
The shorter northern part, known as Little Piggenwhistle, faces east and has a painted brick ground floor, an internal chimney on the northern gable, a rectangular bay on the ground floor, and a window above on the first floor.
