Description

The Old Post House is a cottage and house, dating back to the 17th century, with an 18th-century house added later and alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed from flint and brick on the south side, and timber frame with plaster infill on the north. The roof is tiled, gabled on the north side, hipped elsewhere, and features a pent-roofed dormer and projecting flank chimneys. The building has an L-shaped layout, with two framed bays on the north side.

The south front features brick and flint construction, a brick plat band, a flint plinth with a brick coping course. It has two 2-light and two single-light 20th-century leaded casement windows on the first floor; the right-hand window is leaded, and replaces a larger older opening, with brick surrounds. The ground floor has four similar 2-light casements, irregular with flat brick arches and brick dressings. A 20th-century entrance door is located under a tiled pent roof supported by plain wood brackets, to the left of centre. The west front has two timber-framed bays at first floor on the left with two 2-light 20th-century leaded casement windows. The brick ground floor incorporates a 20th-century semi-circular bay with a flat roof and a leaded casement window, and a 20th-century garden door to the right. Adjoining this is a brick and flint end wall of the 18th-century house, featuring a large projecting brick chimney and a 2-light 20th-century leaded casement window on the ground floor. The interior reveals a timber frame in the 17th-century portion.
