Description

The Crazies is a house located in Wargrave, built in the early 20th century, featuring elements from the 18th century, including porticoes and windows sourced from Henley Town Hall, which was constructed in 1790. The building is finished in stucco and has a cornice and parapet above a hipped slate roof. At the center, there is an octagonal cupola with an arcade and a dome topped with a wrought iron weathervane.

The southeast front showcases a two-storey Doric portico with a pediment that includes a bulls-eye in the tympanum. The ground floor features four Doric columns that support a plain frieze and cornice, adorned with heavy modillions. The entrance door is flanked by a sash window with glazing bars on either side. The first floor mirrors this design with similar columns and stone balustrading that creates a recessed balcony with three bays, behind which are sash windows with glazing bars and an entablature featuring a triglyph frieze. Both the entablature and pediment are made of wood.

On either side of the portico, there is one bay, along with flanking angular bays that contain sash windows with glazing bars. The southwest front also has a similar two-storey portico in the center, but it lacks the triglyph frieze and pediment, while maintaining similar balustrading between the upper columns. The building is notable for its incorporation of elements from the old Henley Town Hall.
