Description

This is a 16th-century barn located 30 metres west of Blounts Farmhouse. It has a tall, five-bay structure facing east, featuring a central projecting porch. The barn is constructed with a timber frame and is weatherboarded, topped with a steeply pitched roof that is half-hipped at the ends. Originally thatched, the roof is now covered in black-painted corrugated iron.

The barn has double doors in the central bay on the west side, opposite the doors in the porch. It showcases fine carpentry, with chamfered arrises on the main members and heavy stepped jowls on each post. The walls include tension braces, and there are long curved braces connecting to the tie beams. Each roof slope has a single butt-purlin supported by heavy trusses and long curved queen struts, but lacks a collar. Long curved wind braces support the purlins, and there are heavy knee braces around the west doorway.

During the war, the building was used by the Airforce, who added brickwork to the lower parts of the walls and installed two large dormers in the west roof slope.
