Description

The house at Sacomsbury dates to the 17th century or earlier. The west end was rebuilt, likely in the 18th century, and the house was extended in the 20th century. It is a timber-frame house, with plastered walls and a thatched roof. The west end features two central chimneys. A modern porch with a gabled design sits at the front. Dormers with wooden casements are set into the thatch at the eaves. The house originally had a three-unit baffle entry plan, with one end rebuilt – apparently as a service area – and a modern kitchen extension added to the west. The other end has been incorporated into the main hall, although a central post remains. Inside, the hall features an axial beam and exposed joists, possibly from an inserted floor.
