Description
This is a mid-16th century barn located 20 meters north of Whitehouse Farmhouse. It has five bays and is constructed from timber framing with weatherboarding, featuring some original wattle and daub infill. The roof is sheeted with asbestos and has both hipped and gable ends, though it was originally thatched. On the south side, there is a set of four 20th-century boarded barn doors at the center bay. The east end bay was originally floored at mid-height and used for stabling, with a loft above that was not divided from the barn, featuring four-light diamond mullioned windows on two sides. The barn showcases good complete arch wind-braced studding and a wind-braced clasped-purlin roof. Most of the arch-braces from the open trusses have been replaced with 19th-century bolted knees. This barn is likely contemporary with the farmhouse.
