Description
This barn, located 10 meters north-east of Church Farmhouse, dates from around 1550 to 1570. It features three bays and is constructed with a timber frame and weatherboarding. The roof is partly covered with corrugated iron and asbestos sheets, having originally been thatched, and is half-hipped at both ends. On the south side, there is a gabled 19th-century midstrey that contains a pair of boarded doors. The north side has a set of four boarded 19th-century doors in the center bay. This barn is an unusually complete example of a 16th-century structure, showcasing studwork with prominent arch wind-bracing and a clasped-purlin roof with good wind-bracing, although the arch braces are missing from the open trusses. It can be compared to the barn at Whitehouse Farm in Crowfield.
