Description
Brook Hall is a former farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with early 17th century and 19th century alterations. The building has two storeys and was originally designed with a two-cell end-chimney plan and a cross-entry, which was extended in the 17th century. It features a timber-framed structure with rough-cast exterior and a plaintiled roof, which includes an axial chimney made of red brick and a 19th century external chimney on the left side.
The windows are small-pane casements, with 19th century windows on the first storey and late 20th century windows on the ground storey. There is a small-paned glazed entrance door from the 20th century. Inside, the hall reveals an exposed late 16th century first floor structure with bar-stop chamfers, and a blocked rear cross-entry doorway shows evidence of an arched head. The roof is a wind-braced clasped-purlin type, and there is a diamond mullioned window beside the chimney at attic level, indicating the original two-cell layout. The 17th century fireplaces have been altered, featuring lintelled back-to-back designs. An early 17th century addition on the right side has one and a half storeys and a wind-braced butt-purlin roof; this section was heightened and reroofed in the 19th century.
