Description

The barn, situated adjacent to White House Farmhouse, dates to the 16th century. It is a timber-framed structure, with weatherboarding on the exterior and some areas filled with wattle-and-daub. The barn has three bays and retains good timber framing, characterised by full-height studs and reversed bracing. Original trusses remain in situ, featuring long arched braces. A cart entry is located in the central bay, accompanied by a porch on the south side that has been extended with a short addition made of red brick. The roof, covering three bays that correspond with the wall bays, includes one row of clasped purlins and intermediate collars between the trusses; the ridge has been replaced. A single-storey, two-bay extension with a pantiled roof on the east side is not of particular interest.
