Description
Bond's Farmhouse is a late 16th-century farmhouse that stands two storeys high with attics. It has a basic two-cell lobby-entrance plan and features a small 20th-century wing added to the west side. The building is timber-framed and rendered, with the south gable end faced in colour-washed brick and a roof covered in clay pantiles. The internal chimney-stack has a plain red brick shaft. The farmhouse includes various two-light and three-light casement windows, although the original lobby-entrance door is blocked.
The frame is constructed with good, plain timbering arranged in four bays, including the chimney bay. The full height studs and short stud-to-stud arched braces are present in the long walls. There are several blocked original windows, including one on the upper floor with six lights and damaged diamond mullions still in place. The upper ceilings, one of which is exposed, are original. The chimney-stack features two back-to-back hearths on each floor, with one on the ground floor having a plain timber lintel. A newel stair located beside the stack provides access to the first floor and attic. The roof structure includes cambered collars and one row of unstepped butt purlins.
