Description

This is a late 16th or early 17th century timber-framed barn located southwest of Blackwell Farmhouse. The barn originally comprised three bays, with a two-bay north addition built at the same time. It is weatherboarded and stands on a brick plinth, with old tile roofs. A central wagon entry is present, and there is a gabled porch to the west. Inside, the roof structure features a queen strut truss to the left of the entry, and a raking queen post truss to the right. Other notable features include large curved purlin and tie beam braces, a single purlin roof, and long tapering jowls to the posts, along with some curved wall braces and a middle rail. The north bays include a wagon shed beneath a hayloft, and feature additional queen strut roof trusses. A hipped addition of the 19th century was added to the west of the north bays, beyond the wagon porch.
