Description

The milepost near The Garden House is a Grade II listed structure dating from 1826, commissioned by the Sparrows Herne Turnpike Trust. Made of cast iron and painted, it features a hollow back and a prismatic front with a semi-circular head that has a raised edge bead. The head displays raised lettering in an arc stating 'LONDON/31'. The east face indicates 'AYLESBURY/7', while the west face shows 'BERKHAM-SD/5/WATFORD/16'. Additionally, the back of the head is inscribed with 'LONDON/RI & I BARNETT/FOUNDERS 1826'.
