Description
The Robin Hood Public House is a building that originated as a house in the 17th century and has since been converted into a public house. The southern end features false timbering on a brick front that dates from the 19th century. The rear wall has an exposed timber frame that is infilled with red brick. The front and southern end are roughcast and painted, with black false timbering on the upper floor at the front. The building has a steep old red tile roof and is two stories high with a cellar, presenting a deep plan that faces east.
The front is irregularly three windows wide, with a door recessed in the middle. To the left, there is a four-light mullioned casement window, and to the right, a deeper four-light mullioned window beneath a tiled pentice roof supported by pierced brackets. Above the door, there is a pointed gabled tiled hood. A central sash window is located above the door, with signboards replacing the other upper windows. The southern gable features a 19th-century moulded stucco frame with concave quadrant corners, displaying the text 'THE ROBIN HOOD/BENSKINS.WATFORD'. The building may have been constructed as part of the adjoining properties numbered 2 to 5.
