Description

The boundary wall to Tring Park, located to the east of number 8 on Tring High Street, dates from the early 18th century, likely around 1711, and was built for John Gore. It is constructed of red brick, with some blue bricks, and stands approximately 2 meters high. The wall is primarily in header bond and features distinctive rounded brick-on-edge copings. It was erected when the main road was diverted from crossing the park to the south of the house. The earth swept up to the garden side conceals the wall, which was designed to hide traffic on the road, allowing for an unobstructed view of the grand vista to the north of the house, as depicted in a contemporary engraving.
