Description

Nos. 10 and 11 High Street is a house that has been converted into offices. The rear section dates from the 18th century, while the front was added in the 19th century, likely for the Rothschild family, designed as the west entrance block to the drive, probably by William Huckvale. The building is constructed of red brick with a Portland stone plinth band, featuring scalloped red tile hanging on the first floor and half-timbered gables with painted roughcast panels. It has steep old red tile roofs and tall red brick chimneys with pilasters.

This large building is two storeys high, with a basement and attics, and faces north. It is three windows wide, with a recessed narrow doorway located to the right of the middle window, accessed by steps. The windows on the first floor are 2-light casements set within three conjoined gables, and there are ornate leaded oriel windows above, each with a triangular projecting centre. The tile hanging begins below the heads of the ground floor windows, which are 3-light transomed casements with flat hoods supported by moulded brackets. All windows feature patterned glazing bars.

There are rectangular bays with coved and lean-to tiled roofs at the east and west ends, each topped with a triangular oriel. The rear of the building is made of 18th-century red brick and includes flush box sash windows with 6/6 panes and wide glazing bars set under segmental arches. The entrance features a panelled door with a flat hood or shaped brackets. This building is included in the register for its group value with other nearby structures.
