Description

This lamp post, located at the entrance to the drive of Tring Mansion, dates from the late 19th century and was created for the Rothschild Estate. It features an oak post that stands about 2 meters high, topped with a wrought iron standard and brackets. The lamp standard rises an additional 1.5 meters and supports an ogee-shaped copper cap with a glass dome underneath. The post is adorned with elaborate scroll work on all four sides of the stand, as well as on the cap and the clasping head of the post. Long ornamental iron straps with studs run down the faces of the post, which also has base loops. On the west side, a separate scrolled parallel ladder-stay projects out with a loop at its base.
