Description

This lamp post, located at the west end of the forecourt of Tring Mansion, dates from the late 19th century and was created for the Rothschild Estate. It features an oak post that stands about 2 meters high, with a wrought iron standard and brackets mounted on it. The lamp standard rises approximately 1.5 meters higher, supporting an ogee-shaped copper cap with a glass dome underneath. The standard is adorned with elaborate scroll work on all four sides, which both supports the cap and clasps the head of the post. Long ornamental iron straps with studs run down the faces of the post, and there are base loops. Additionally, a separate scrolled parallel ladder-stay projects from the south side, featuring a loop at its base.
