Description

This late 19th-century gate lodge, now a house, was likely built for staff of the Rothschild family, possibly by William Huckvale. It is a small, unusual house facing north, with a V-shaped layout on the north side. The ground floor is of red brick, while the upper parts are scallop red tile-hung, with the exception of two jettied, half-timbered projections at the corners. The roof is steeply pitched and red tiled, and there's a tall, pilastered red brick chimney. The northwest and northeast faces project with gables, and a gabled open timber porch sits between them. The windows are mullioned with leaded lights, with five panes to each floor, and decorative framing to the gables featuring close-studding over the windows. The building is included on the list for its group value.
