Description

This is a turnpike road marker, likely from the early 19th century, created for the Sparrows Herne Trust. It is a cast-iron post approximately 0.6 meters high, featuring a square base and a round-faced upper part that displays the relief legend 'SPARROWS HERNE TRUST'. The Sparrows Herne Trust operated from 1762 to 1873, providing a route between London and Buckinghamshire through Watford and Tring. There is one other surviving marker located in Tring, Hertfordshire.
