Description
Nos 212 and 214 on High Street are a pair of mid-19th century houses made of stock brick and stucco, which incorporate parts of a timber-framed house from the 16th to 17th century. The buildings are three stories tall with slate roofs that are behind parapets and have a half-hipped design at the south end.
No 212 features a two-window range of sash windows set in moulded surrounds. It has a 19th-century shop front with a cornice that extends over the house door, supported by large brackets. The door is framed by a moulded surround with pilasters. No 214 is slightly set forward and also has a two-window range of sash windows in moulded surrounds. It boasts a large stucco dentil cornice and parapet, along with a stucco panel located between the first and second floors. The ground floor has been modernized. At the rear, there are two rendered gables. Notably, a collar-and-tie-beam truss dating to around 1600 was discovered in the party wall between the two houses.
