Description
The milepost located at the junction of Hampton Park Road and St Margaret's Road is an early to mid-19th century structure made of cast iron, painted white with green relief lettering. It features three angled surfaces. The topmost central surface displays the lettering "HAMPTON/BISHOP/PARISH." On the left side, it reads "TO/HEREFORD/1/MILE," and on the right side, "TO/GLO'STER/25/MILES." Since 1766, it has been a requirement to mark each mile of roads established by turnpike trusts for accurate pricing and timing of journeys. This milepost is part of a series along the Hereford to Gloucester turnpike road and remains in good, original condition.
