Description
No. 36 Hampton Park Road is a house built in the late 19th century. It features a combination of brick, timber-frame, and plaster, with some areas covered in tile hanging. The roof is made of plain tiles and has two spurred brick stacks with dentilled caps, along with two smaller stacks. The house has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, with a single-window range that includes a three-light stone mullion set under a brick pointed arch with a hood moulding. The gables have scalloped barges.
The central entrance is highlighted by a plank door beneath a simple verandah and porch supported by turned balusters. To the right of the entrance is a brick bay window that has ashlar detailing and a central cross-window flanked by plain lights. The right side of the house features a later timber-framed bay with leaded lights, which jetties out on wooden brackets, and also has scalloped barge-boards. At the rear, there is a timber-framed outshut. This house was the home of Sir Alfred Watkins, who was a photographer, inventor, and antiquarian.
