Description

St Giles' Chapel, located adjacent to St Giles' Hospital, was built in the 20th century, although it stands on a foundation dating back to approximately 1682. The chapel is constructed of dressed sandstone with a stone tile roof. It features diagonal buttresses and a pointed arch entrance with a chamfered lintel. A small bellcote is present, bearing a corbelled tablet inscribed with "Ricardus Cox 1682". Windows are arranged on each returned side, each featuring a single mullion with curved tracery to the heads, and with hood mouldings. A single arched window is located at the rear, incorporating quatrefoil detailing. Additional features include a chimney on the left side and two square windows. The interior contains 17th century panelling, along with a pulpit and communion rails. Historical records from 1804 reference the chapel (Duncumb J: History of the County of Hereford: 1804-: 429).
