Description
Williams Almshouses are located on St Owen Street in Hereford. They were rebuilt in 1678 and again in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of brick with a Welsh slate roof and features four spurred brick stacks. It is two storeys high and has a six-window range, with late 19th-century, three-light casements set under gauged brick flat arches. There are six plank doors, paired for Nos. 137/139 and 141/143, which are positioned under segmental arches. The structure includes six square bays with casements supported on chamfered brackets, and a continuous verandah with a slate roof that rests on brackets. Notable features include a firemark, a tablet, and two reset carved stones. The right and left sides of the building display 17th-century brickwork, with some earlier masonry and carved stones. Inside No. 143, there is a 19th-century winder stair, and on the first floor, there are two 19th-century plank doors and partitions, along with architraves around the windows. All units of Williams Almshouses are believed to be similar in design.
