Description
A group of three dwellings, now shops and dwellings, dating from the mid-18th century, located in Hereford. The buildings are constructed of painted brick with an asbestos tile roof to the left-hand side (number 61) and Welsh slate to the rest, featuring an early 20th century brick stack at the centre rear. The buildings are three storeys high with a cellar, and have a six-window front. The windows to the left are 6/6 sashes in moulded cases, while those to the right are late 19th century 2/2 sashes, also in moulded cases under segmental arches. A storeyband runs across the front, with similar fenestration above. Moulded wooden eaves are present on the right-hand side.
Number 61 has a late 19th century entrance consisting of a four-panel door and margin-glazed fanlight within a round-headed doorcase. This doorcase has an open pediment hood supported on consoles and beaded pilasters. Numbers 63 and 63A feature a 19th century four-panel door with a plain overlight. A 20th century shop front with an awning-hood is located to the left of the entrance of numbers 63 and 63A, partially obscuring the continuous storeyband.
The interior of number 61 likely dates to the early 19th century and features a straight flight of stairs with original balusters. On the second floor, the features include a four-panel door with an architrave, a corner fireplace, and architraves to the windows. The first floor includes a corner stack, window and door architraves, three two-panel doors and a corner fireplace. The ground floor shows boxed-in ceiling beams. The cellar is stone-lined and contains a stone stack base and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The interiors of numbers 63 and 63A were not inspected, but are understood to contain 18th century staircases.
