Description
This is a barn located approximately 25 metres east of Highams Farmhouse, dating from the early 17th century. It is timber-framed with walls made of weatherboarding, corrugated iron, and concrete blocks, and has a roof of corrugated iron. The barn consists of four bays, featuring a midstrey and a single aisle on the opposite side. It has jowled arcade posts, arched braces connecting the tiebeams and arcade-plates, and curved primary bracing in the walls of the midstrey. The northeast aisle wall has been completely rebuilt, and the studding of the southeast wall has been removed, although the posts and plate remain. The common rafters have been taken out, but the principal rafters are still present. The barn has a raised roof with a low pitch added in the 20th century, along with 20th-century side walls that enclose the original timber structure.
