Description

This is a barn built in the early 17th century, located near the junction with Whitwell Road. It features a timber frame set on a high red brick sill and is covered in dark weatherboarding, with some corrugated sheeting on the rear wall. The barn has a steeply pitched roof that is now made of slate. It is a tall structure with seven bays facing south, and the rear aisle is preserved in the three eastern bays. There is a central double doorway on the south side.

The barn includes step jowled posts, straight braces to the arcade plate, and long straight braces to the tie-beams. The roof is a clasped-purlin type, with one purlin on each slope and long straight inclined queen-posts that widen at the top. There are also possibly added long straight wind-braces. The aisle features aisle ties to the outer wallplate, and the arcade plate has face-halved bladed scarf joints. The gable trusses include a collar with struts below.
