Description

Hill Cottage is a house dating from the mid-17th century. It has been altered and extended during the 19th century and in the late 20th century. The house is timber-framed with roughcast rendering, alongside brick extensions that have also been roughcast. It has steeply pitched roofs now covered in slate. The house follows a 1½-storey, three-cell internal-chimney, lobby-entry plan, facing south. There is a two-cell extension to the east end at a lower level, and a single-cell extension to the west end featuring a rectangular front bay window. The south front has three gabled dormers at the eaves and four windows to the ground floor, with two-light small-pane recessed casement windows. A projecting rectangular enclosed porch provides access to the lobby entrance. The rear slope of the roof has been raised to include a dormer on each side of the chimney. Inside, there are chamfered axial beams with bar stops, exposed old wallplates, a clasped-purlin collar roof, and straight wind-braces from former gable ends.
