Description

This is a barn located to the south of Langley End Cottage, dating from the 17th or 18th century. It features a timber frame set on a tarred brick plinth, with dark weatherboarding and a steep roof covered in old red tiles that extends down over the lower part at the rear. The external gable tops have applied white-painted boards that create the appearance of a V-shaped roof truss, which may have been added by the architect Edwin Lutyens around 1911 when he was developing the surrounding area at Hill End, now known as Langley End. The barn has a tall, three-bay structure facing east, with large double doors in the center and a smaller boarded garage door in the southern bay. Each slope of the roof has two purlins. There is a separate entrance and window at the north side leading to a rear outshut. This barn is included for its group value.
