Description

Gunners Farm is a hall house dating from the 15th or 16th century, with possible earlier elements, and was extended in the 19th century. The building is timber-framed, primarily plastered, with some sections featuring weatherboarding, and has a thatched roof. It consists of a low two-bay hall block that retains front and rear doors aligned with the original cross-entry at the northern end, along with a two-bay crosswing to the north, which is likely contemporary. There is an axial chimney stack located in the northern bay of the hall and an external chimney stack on the northern wall of the crosswing, which is now enclosed by a large 19th-century lean-to extension. The property has two 20th-century porches, one adjacent to the original front door and another to the north of the lean-to extension. On the ground floor, there are two 20th-century casement windows with imitation diamond leading, along with a 19th-century casement window at the end of the lean-to. The first floor features one 20th-century casement window with imitation diamond leading. Although access was not obtained, external inspection suggests that the building retains many characteristics of a medieval hall house, with minimal alterations aside from the lean-to extension. There is a small area of weatherboarding on the western end of the crosswing. The building was re-thatched in 1966.
